Weekend Project #5: Garage Laundry "Room"

One of the things I expected to dislike about the house we bought was that the washer and dryer are in the garage. As it turns out, I really haven't minded it since it keeps the house quieter and cooler (at least compared to our last house that had the washer and dryer in the kitchen!). Plus, it's really not inconvenient at all. However, it was a little dreary doing laundry in a stark white, plain garage, which is actually what I dislike about the washer and dryer being out there. A few months ago, I decided to spruce up the laundry area of the garage and, after a shotgun start of painting the wall behind the appliances, I petered out until finally finishing it this weekend:

I'm really happy with how it turned out, and I'm enjoying doing laundry in my new space.

And we're off!

Levi got the notification he's been waiting for today - he's been invited to take the Norman Fire Department written test this Saturday. As I mentioned before, the process should take about 4 months, so we still have a ways to go, but Levi is very excited about actually doing something toward getting hired. Although it's been very difficult to wait a year and a half for this process to start again, I think the hardest waiting of it all is during these next few months. Prayers are much appreciated!

The Sticks

This week, I've been traveling all over northeastern Oklahoma telling teachers about Professional Oklahoma Educators. One of the things I love about my job is that, during August, I get to visit tiny towns that literally only have a school and houses. These are places no one would ever have a reason to visit, and the school employees are always excited to see a new face (because it's been so long since they have!).

It's also fun for me because I see things that are part of everyday life for those towns' residents but so very different from my everyday life. It gives me a more well-rounded view of Oklahoma, and I have a love of and appreciation for these towns because of it.

Here are some sights from the week so far that are different from my everyday:

Welcome to Olustee, OK (What? You've never heard of it? Me either)

I like to call this the small town Wal-mart. Grocery, hardware and feed store (far sign) all in one.
Peggs, OK

Deer! Watts, OK

Tomorrow I hit the road again to head to Timberlake and then Woodward on Friday. Pray for safety!
