Organizing Baby Clothes

Have you ever tried to organize baby clothes? What about baby girl clothes? There are so many separate pieces! Dresses, pants, onesies, bloomers, bows, socks, sleepers, etc. Some are sets, some are stand-alones, and how is a person supposed to make sense of it all?

After my shower a couple of weeks ago I had A LOT of clothes to put away and no system. My OCD tendencies were panicking, but luckily I came up with a plan before my sisters and mom invaded my house to help.

I decided to organize the clothes by size and type. I split up the "sets" thinking I might sometimes want to use pants from one outfit to go with a different onesie. I wanted to maximize my options to mix and match, and this seemed the best way.

In her drawers, I put onesies and pants in bins by size (these came from Dollar Tree and fit perfectly! I was so pleased.) with smallest to largest left to right.

Then I corralled the socks and headbands in their own sections in the top drawer.

In the closet, I used door hangers I found at Dollar Tree (3/pack! What a steal!) and my sister wrote sizes on each one so I can keep everything divided smallest to largest left to right in there, too. I had seen this on Pinterest done with really cute scrapbook paper and cut-outs, but the crafty bone in my body is missing lately. It's temporary, I hope! I'm getting more tired these days and just don't care enough to make something cute (even though I wish to have made the cute homemade things I find!).

I'm feeling much better now that things are put away. My next project is "operation pom opening." I ordered several tissue poms to create this over her crib:

The only problem is that they all come flat and unfinished so that you have to open them all by pulling each layer of tissue apart by hand. When they came in the mail and I read the instructions that told me it should take about 10-15 minutes PER POM (I ordered 10!), I simply laid them all on the floor to see the color combination, closed the bedroom door and have been hoping they'll open themselves. :)

Flatlander Coffee Co.

In non-pregnancy news, if you haven't heard, Levi and I (well, mostly Levi) have gone in together with two friends to start a coffee roasting business. It started out as a dream to start a coffee shop (something Levi has wanted to do for several years now), but after brainstorming with our friends and considering our options we decided it would be less risky and require fewer startup costs to start by roasting and selling our own coffee (and hope that it might one day turn into a coffee shop).

For several brainstorming meetings, our team discussed how we want the business to work, and the plan we've settled on is to sell to individuals (both online and through word-of-mouth) and hopefully businesses around Norman/OKC that sell coffee (either in consumable drinks or as a bagged commodity). Our coffee will be roasted to order, so it will be fresher than almost anything else you can find in town, plus it will be roasted locally, which is especially a selling factor in a place like Norman where buying "local" products is very hip.

The most exciting part is that we've decided on a name: Flatlander Coffee Co. (a play on the plains where we live) AND we officially became an LLC this week! We still have some business documents to draft and accounting procedures to set up before we officially start selling, but the plan is to be up-and-running by April 15 (which is pretty ambitious!). A logo and social media page are also in the works, so be looking for us around mid-April. I'm sure I'll post an official open-for-business announcement here, as well, so be sure to check us out!

Sweet Dreams

Our sweet baby girl will get to use the same bassinet and bedding as her daddy. I think that's so special! Thanks to Levi's Meemaw for keeping it all these years!

Third Trimester Thoughts

  • We're having a baby. For real. Soon. The arrival of a stroller/car seat combo via UPS this week made it sink in even more. It's so surreal, and I still can't believe it's happening (despite all the "fun" changes my body is experiencing!).
  • I'm glad for the spring-like weather we should have the next several days because my coats are beginning to not be able to zip!
  • Babies "need" a lot of stuff. Our house is small and Levi and I are borderline minimalists, so we're having trouble with the transition (especially Levi). We haven't even had our baby shower yet, which will surely bring even more things into our small, tidy, decorated home. It's going to take some mad organizing skills and some creativity to make sure our decor doesn't scream "baby". I still have hope, though Levi is getting pretty worried. He was expressing his grief the other day over an exer-saucer we received that is "kid" colors and asked "why can't they make this stuff in these colors (pointing around the house)."
  • This baby is going to be around for awhile. And I mean all the time. I always realized this, but it's just starting to actually sink in that we're going to be a bit tied down. Of course, we know that we can take her places with us and we aren't going to let having a child end life as we know it, but there will be practical things we'll have to change like no more late-night trips to Walmart after bedtime.
  • It's kind of scary/sad to think about how our lives will change when we have our first baby. We're excited for her to be here, but at the same time I think we'll miss some of the way things are now.
  • How will Molly react to a baby?
  • I'm having to make a lot of job-related decisions as my due date draws near and I plan on staying home. Between quitting my full-time job and trying to decide what to do about current and offered freelance jobs, I'm a bit overwhelmed. There's a lot of transition happening in my life after 4 years of consistency. It's a lot to take in, and will I like how it turns out? Will I make the right decisions?
  • May, come quickly.
